Why Locals Love Restaurante Outback Steakhouse
Restaurante Outback Steakhouse in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, is a vibrant destination for anyone craving a hearty Australian-inspired dining experience with an inviting Brazilian twist. As a steakhouse that seamlessly blends elements of an Australian restaurant, chop bar, cocktail bar, and hamburger joint, Outback delivers a rich and diverse menu that promises bold, satisfying flavors in every bite.
The culinary journey here is anchored by standout dishes like the Junior Ribs For Two, featuring two generous, succulent racks of ribs (about 375g each) paired with your choice of sides. These ribs are tender, juicy, and glazed to perfection, offering a smoky sweetness that lingers pleasantly on the palate. For those who enjoy a bit of variety, the Board From Down Under combines tender Junior Ribs and a juicy filet mignon steak (around 200g), finished with vibrant chimichurri sauce and accompanied by their signature Crunchy Potatoes—crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, these sides perfectly complement the rich meats.
Steak connoisseurs will delight in individual cuts like The Outback Special, a 225g sirloin seasoned with Outback’s distinctive spice blend, and Victoria’s Filet, a tender 200g filet mignon served with a silky Merlot sauce that elevates its natural flavors. The New York Strip Steak (300g), sourced from the heart of the sirloin, offers a robust beefy experience that’s expertly grilled to satisfy any steak lover’s craving.
To refresh and enliven the palate, the drink menu offers inventive choices like the Margarita Trio, a vibrant set of 200ml margaritas with flavors ranging from classic to cranberry, strawberry, and more—perfect for sharing with friends. The Beer Mule, a surprising yet delightful concoction mixing Jack Daniel’s, ginger, draft beer, and lime, provides a refreshing twist on traditional beer cocktails. Meanwhile, the Brazilian Beach Cocktail, blending fresh kiwi and strawberries, captures the essence of Rio’s tropical vibe.
The atmosphere at Outback Steakhouse Barra da Tijuca balances casual comfort with lively energy, making it a go-to spot for everything from family dinners to casual catch-ups with friends. The attentive service generally receives high praise for being quick and friendly, although some diners note that wait times can increase during busier hours. The welcoming environment is perfect for sinking your teeth into generous portions of expertly prepared meats and sharing great moments over a cold, perfectly poured draft beer.
While a minor inconvenience noted by visitors is the parking fee, the overall dining experience more than compensates with quality food and warm hospitality. Outback’s unique charm lies in how it stays true to its Australian roots while embracing the local flair—resonating well with both locals and visitors who seek a familiar yet exciting steakhouse experience.
Whether you’re a fan of rich barbecued ribs, expertly grilled steaks, or inventive cocktails, Outback Steakhouse in Rio’s Barra da Tijuca stands out as a satisfying, flavorful destination where each visit promises bold tastes and genuine conviviality.

Better than outback in US. Many of the American restaurant chains in Brazil target upper classes, the prices are proportionally higher than in US, so they are cleaner, fancier and have better food and use better ingredients.

Great ribs and wings, great service. Be warned that google maps location is way off unless they took notice of my change request. Currently it points to the new shopping mall one block over and I spent ages wandering around looking for it there before a security guy pointed me in the right direction!!! Worth the search though if you are looking for this style of food.

Outback is Outback. Same basic menu everywhere with some variation depending on the country. Outback has their own flavorings, so if you like it, then you’ll like it everywhere. The service here was excellent.

The food is good. My predilect is the ribs on barbecue. But the service is slow when the place is crowded. I waited a long time for the waitress

Great place but need to rescue some of the premium quality they used to have.

Great new renovations, busy on a Saturday, but was given a table in no time. Excellent food, gringo approves.
